About Listing:

  • How long is the listing period? Listings on Barebrush last as long as your account is active.
  • If my work gets into a calendar, is it eligible to be picked for other calendars also? Yes. Any artwork may appear in up to three calendars, before being retired.
  • Does this mean I can show the same art work from month to month? Yes, you can show the same art until it is "retired." Art is retired when it has been selected for three calendars. The art is considered validated by the curators and no longer eligible for new contests. Calendar art is visible in the artist's calendar gallery and in the Barebrush calendar archives. Barebrush encourages artists to keep the site fresh by posting new art in addition to old favorites. For Featured Artists, retired artwork appears in the Barebrush Honors listing.
  • How many listings may I post? Is there a limit? You may post as many as you like, but please don't post duplicates. There is no limit to the number of works you can list on Barebrush. In fact, the more art you list, the better you will be represented in the jurying for the calendar, and to the public.
  • Is there a recommended posting level? Curators like to see a broad presentation of art.
  • How much does it cost? The cost is $25 for three months on Barebrush with the ability to list as many artworks as you desire. Volume discounts are available if you purchase longer periods. Artists win free months if they win the Curators' Choice Awards which are given for each calendar depending on the number of entries.
  • What is the incentive to list at Barebrush? Barebrush is an online marketplace dedicated to the art of the nude. People tend to buy nudes privately, rather than at public shows, so the internet venue is a good way to present work not normally showcased in this way. Barebrush is advertised in the NY Gallery Guide (Chelsea section), a powerful marketing tool in the NY art world, and respected all over the world. The N*des-of-the-month juried show series drive people to the site . It will give the participants recognition, and contributes provenance to the art work, making it more valuable. The incentive is for both emerging and established artists.
For example, artists and dealers can post nudes on Barebrush in conjunction with a gallery show, which may or may not include nudes. This is a way of increasing exposure and gallery show impact.. For emerging artists, winning a place in the n*des-of-the-month calendar may increase interest in your work, help sell the piece and even result in gallery representation. For collectors, it's a chance to participate in a new marketplace, designed especially for the internet age. Will your favorite pieces make it into the n*des-of-the-month? Only time will tell.
  • Do I have to list art every month? No, you are under no obligation to list art. If your account has been inactive for 6 months, it may be deleted.
  • Can I put a link to my website on my listing page? Yes, you can link to your art, to a bio page or a gallery page if you are represented. by a gallery.
  • Do I have to put my email address on my listing? No, you may put other contact information (like a website) instead. Phone numbers are not recommended.
  • Why aren't the thumbnails larger? Some of the art is difficult to see in the small format. The thumbnails are small so that the viewer will click to the detail page & view the larger image and the complete information.
  • Why should I bother with the detail page, why not just provide a click through right to my website? Clicks on the detail page add to the count of page views for your art on Barebrush.com. Calendar selection is based on applying artistic judgement to popular interest. The art is arranged for the curator's review by accumulated page views in order from the most page views to the least. Enticing your viewers to look at your detail page promotes your art and enhances your ranking in the calendar selection process. There is no guarantee that a high ranking will earn you a place in the calendar, because the curator 's artistic jugement is the final say. However, a low ranking can mean that the calendar is full before the curator gets to your piece.
  • Can people 'game' the counts? Multiple hits per day from the same computer will not increase the total, but multiple hits on different days from the same computer will count -- you can click on your art every day and promote your art to get friends & family to look at your detail listings at Barebrush.com.
