Changes—In March 2013, Barebrush founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen, selected the art. Artist and independent curator, D. S. Wade, selected three Curators' Choice nominees for the Best-of-the-Rest calendar.

When asked about this change, Ms. Skeen said:

I want to encourage all Barebrush artists to actively participate in multiple calendar contests. I want to encourage artists to actively manage their work in the monthly calendar competitions. Since September 2007, the Curators' Choice awards in the N*des-of-the-Month have been rewarding worthy artists with recognition and prizes. Now that recognition comes to the Best-of-the-Rest. Going forward, three nominees will be selected each month by the guest curator. As participation grows, so will the rewards.

The three Curators Choice nominees, selected by Ms. Wade are: a drawing, Portrait, Detail by Ivy Klenetsky of Freehold, NJ; an oil, Doug by David Schulz of Middletown, CT; and Winter Hibiscus, a watercolor, by Rebecca Venn of Kenosha, WI. Ms. Wade selected Portrait, Detail to launch the month.

One artist is making his calendar debut in March: Mateus Costa from Cheltenham, PA.

Four artworks are retiring, having been selected for three calendars: Apples and Oranges by Ione Citrin from Los Angeles, CA; Ed by Jacqueline Saunders from Burke, VA; Doug by David Schulz from Middletown, CT; and Early Spring Daffs by Ilene Skeen from New York, NY.

The 31 artists represented in March, 2013, in day order are: 1* Ivy Klenetsky, 2 Jean Marcellino, 3 Jacqueline Saunders, 4 Mateus Costa, 5 Jon Rettich, 6 Stephanie Fuller, 7 Darlene Kuhne, 8 Jean Marcellino, 9 Rebecca Venn, 10 Taehyub Lee, 11 Darlene Kuhne, 12 Jacqui Morgan, 13 Jacqui Morgan, 14 Janet E Gorman, 15 Donelli J. DiMaria, 30 Janet E Gorman, 31 Ilene Skeen.

Each of the artists selected for the calendar receives two (2) complimentary listings for each artwork included in this calendar. Three artists, indicated by asterisks (*), are nominated for the Curators Choice Awards. Curators’ Choice nominees receive 8 additional complimentary listings. The top artist receives an additional prize. Viewers can also vote for “The People's Choice,” a poll which includes all of the art in the calendar. The top three artworks in The People's Choice win one (1) complementary listing for their artists. Winners announced April 1st.

The Barebrush Provenance for each artwork is viewable by clicking on the calendar thumbnail (above) or on the caption under the artwork from each artist’s Barebrush Gallery page. The Barebrush program of retiring artworks that have been selected for three calendars is designed to encourage all artists to show their best new work and keep their online galleries fresh and interesting.
