Bringing in the New—This April 2013 Best-of-the-Rest calendar displays all genres except nudes. With twenty-eight artworks making their calendar debut, it is a study in personality and the dominance of portrait. Barebrush founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen selected the art and the guest curator, artist, illustrator and teacher, David Reuss, selected the Curators’ Choice nominees. When he submitted his selections, Mr. Reuss wrote:
Great works to choose from! This simple statement is ringing endorsement of the new Barebrush process.
The three Curators’ Choice nominees selected by Mr. Reuss are: the highly stylized in drawing, Daphne by Stephanie Fuller; the brooding drawing, In Shadow/Self Portrait 2013 by Eddie Torres; and the strongly composed oil painting, Man in Gray by Taehyub Lee. Coincidentally, these three nominees are from New York.
