And Falling in Love with (more than) Nudes — Guest curator, David Masello, writes about art and culture for the New York Times, Town & Country (where he was senior editor), Fine Art Connoisseur, American Arts Quarterly, and many other periodicals. In addition, Mr. Masello is the author of two books: Architecture Without Rules: The Houses of Marcel Breuer and Herbert Beckhard, and New York's 50 Best Art in Public Places.

Mr. Masello selected the three Curators' Choice nominees for November, beginning the month with an intriguing sequence oil painting by Elizabeth Sowell-Zak of New York, NY, Temporal Expression, which appears also in October and November of 2012. Mr. Masello also selected a tour de force drawing, Reflections by Donna Ellery of Mc Indoe Falls, VT, appearing in the Barebrush calendars for the first time. In addition, Mr. Masello selected a compelling acrylic, by Paul Rybarczyk from Buffalo, NY Look Homeward, which appears in the January and August 2013 calendars.

Three artworks in this calendar will now be retired from competition, this being their third Barebrush calendar appearance. They are: Temporal Expression by Elizabeth Sowell-Zak from New York, NY; Julie & Dirty Having Fun by the late Jacqui Morgan from New York City, NY; and Look Homeward by Paul Rybarczyk from Buffalo, NY.

All Barebrush calendar art since our inception in September 2006 is visible through the Calendar Archives tab of the Art Menu. Calendar slide-shows are available for each calendar by clicking on any calendar in the Barebrush history archives. As of November 2013, there are 3,290 unique artworks online in 4,170 Barebrush calendar days of Barebrush history.

The art for November comes from 9 states as well as Canada, Mexico and Russia.

In October, Barebrush.com held its second "brick & mortar" invitational gallery show, Falling in Love with Nudes++. The "++" meant that all genres were accepted to this show. Sales were modest, but better than last time, so the trend is up. Will we do it again next year? Stay tuned....

The 30 artists represented in November, 2013, in day order are: 1* Elizabeth Sowell-Zak, 2 Taehyub Lee, 3 Jon Rettich, 4 Serge Lis, 5 Richard Bulman, 6 Jon Rettich, 7 Svetlana Kanyo, 8 Serge Lis, 9 Peter Wong King, 10 Richard Bulman, 11 Jon Rettich, 12* Donna Ellery, 13 Richard Bulman, 14 Darlene Kuhne, 15 William Zuback, 16 Neal Smithwillow, 17 Neal Smithwillow, 18 Jean Marcellino, 19 Ione Citrin, 20* Paul Rybarczyk, 21 Ilene Skeen, 22 Donelli J. Each of the artists selected for the calendar receives two (2) complimentary listings for each artwork included in this calendar. Three artists, indicated by asterisks (*), are nominated for the Curators Choice Awards. Curators’ Choice nominees receive 8 additional complimentary listings. The top artist receives an additional prize. Viewers can also vote for “The People's Choice,” a poll which includes all of the art in the calendar. The top three artworks in The People's Choice win one (1) complementary listing for their artists. Winners announced December 1st.

The Barebrush Provenance for each artwork is viewable by clicking on the calendar thumbnail (above) or on the caption under the artwork from each artist’s Barebrush Gallery page. The Barebrush program of retiring artworks that have been selected for three calendars is designed to encourage all artists to show their best new work and keep their online galleries fresh and interesting.
