Terms of Engagement, Part II — Mikaela Sardo LaMarche, curator for ACA Galleries, NYC, selected art for Barebrush twice before, Apr ’07 and Nov ’08. This time, she selected 62 artworks (for July and August), from the 800+ submitted. Like her pick for July, Ms. LaMarche starts August off with another splash, The Other Twin by Janet A. Cook. “A must,” she said. She looked closely at Cubism 1 and the others in that series by Guenter Knop before making her selection. Tidal Rhythm, detail by Christopher Smith continues the summer beach theme. Figure Study-Female Form by Eddie Torres seems straining, disconsolate, having more emotion than most classical figure studies. Something about the technique, maybe? And expressing lassitude in the heat, Red Hat #9 by Donelli J. DiMaria, clearly calls us to take it easy — another expression of a call for sanity and order. Ironically, Armspan by Gary Paul Stutler ends the month, pulling back, saying “hold on to summer as long as you can....” When the selection was complete, LaMarche commented on the scope and variety of the art. “It’s amazing how artists find so many creative interpretations,” she said. August 2010 completes the fourth year of N*des-of-the-Month. All of these artists should be proud to be included. Enjoy! The 31 artists represented in August, 2010, in day order are: 1* Janet A. Cook, 2 Jacqui Morgan, 3 Damian Huntley, 4* Guenter Knop, 5 Mary Ann Martinez, 6 Chanit Roston, 7 Cindy Sibilsky, 8 David Michael Hollander, 9 Kathryn Wasserman, 10 Jean Marcellino, 11 Matthew Smith, 12* Christopher Smith, 13 Terry Hinkle, 14* Eddie Torres, 15 William Jobling, 16 Donna Cleary, 17 Kathy Ostman-Magnusen , 18* Donelli J.
