Engaging 2013 — N*des-of-the-Month for the launch of 2013 were selected by Ms. Mikaela Sardo Lamarche, curator for ACA Galleries, NYC. Ms. Lamarche had this to say before the selection process:
I am looking for excellent technical skill coupled with a strong aesthetic sense. I will select artworks that are original or unexpected in their conception or execution. I will chose works that allow the viewer to enter the picture and somehow engage the composition and subject.A subtle balance of colors and gray, this calendar seems to invite the close inspection she planned. For her Curator’s Choice nominees, Ms. Lamarche selected four drawings and a watercolor. Launching the year is a recumbent figure, Lost In Dreams..., a pastel by Terry Hinkle of St. Louis, MO. Also reclining is a charcoal/carbon drawing, LayTable by Gary Paul Stutler of Vallejo, CA. Ms. Lamarche selected Eclipse, a pastel by Tai Lin of Linden, NJ; a watercolor, Miss Saturn by New York artist, Jacqui Morgan; and a carbon/charcoal drawing by Jean Marcellino, Leah on Thursday.
One artist is making her calendar debut with the new year: Lilianne Milgrom from Fairfax, VA offers Back View, an acrylic.
Eight artworks are retiring with this calendar, in accordance with the Barebrush program of retiring artworks (as mentioned below).
