Unusual Sparkle —Barebrush guest curator, Angela Nacol, independent curator and art collections manager, is a new friend to Barebrush, making her Barebrush curatorial debut. Ms. Nacol displayed a young, edgy sense of art, selecting the five Curators' Choice nominees from some of the most radical of the offerings.
The lead painting, Ben, is a strongly-composed man-in-a-box oil. It is the Barebrush calendar debut for artist Robert Markey of Ashfield MA.
For her other Curators' Choice nominees, Ms. Nacol selected a luscious monochrome ink drawing/painting, Sepia Sprawl by Barrie Ripin of Bethesda MD; a remarkable colored pencil drawing, Free Falling by Rebecca Venn of Kenosha WI; an oil painting with a not-so-hiddend agenda, The Other History by Daniel Maidman of Brooklyn NY; and the strongly realized, minimalist pastel, Melting Light by Jerry Ralya of Craftsbury Common VT.
The 30 artists represented in June, 2013, in day order are:
1* Robert Markey, 2 Paul Rybarczyk, 3* Barrie Ripin, 4 Brian Crede, 5 Christopher Smith, 6 Bill Foote, 7* Rebecca Venn, 8 Lynne Levin, 9 Darlene Kuhne, 10 Gary Paul Stutler, 11 Taehyub Lee, 12* Profile Deleted, 13 Emily Stedman, 14 Robert Copelan, 15 Terence Kelly, 16 Jacqui Morgan, 17 Donelli J.
