Still Falling in Love with Nudes — Guest curator, David Masello, writes about art and culture for the New York Times, Town & Country (where he was senior editor), Fine Art Connoisseur, American Arts Quarterly, and many other periodicals. In addition, Mr. Masello is the author of two books: Architecture Without Rules: The Houses of Marcel Breuer and Herbert Beckhard, and New York's 50 Best Art in Public Places.
Mr. Masello selected the five Curators' Choice nominees for November, launching the month with an impressive wood sculpture, Torso in Walnut by Larry Scaturro of Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Masello also selected an unusual "blue nude" mixed media piece, Supplicant by Peter Bloch of New York, NY; a haunting oil, complete with poetic sentiment, Gizelle by Neal Smithwillow of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; a bold pastel, Siren by Jerry Ralya of Craftsbury Common, VT; and a close-up reclining torso in oil, Primal Block Party 2 by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen, represented by Monkdogz in New York, NY.
All thirty artworks in this calendar appear in the Barebrush calendars for the first time. One artist is making her calendar debut this month: Jeanne Sisson from Northfield, MA with a lovely mixed media silk and bead piece, Moon Dance.
The art for November comes from 13 states as well as England, Mexico and Spain.
In October, Barebrush.com held its second "brick & mortar" invitational gallery show, Falling in Love with Nudes++. Sales were modest, but better than last time, so the trend is up. Will we do it again next year? Stay tuned....
