Happy Holidays -- Celebration of Art of the Nude, Part I -- Guest curator, Ed Brennan, has been a member of the Salmagundi Club since 1973. He is an active and popular artist member and patron, as well as a former Salmagundi President and former Chairman. The Salmagundi Club was founded in 1871, as a band of congenial artists and art patrons, sharing art fellowship, food and fun in New York City and beyond. The Club was "organized" by official charter in 1880 as the Salmagundi Sketch Club. It is now also known as the Salmagundi Art Club.
Mr. Brennan selected the five Curators' Choice nominees for December, launching the month with a digital drawing, Bathhouse by Troy Cooper of Norfolk, VA, "an homage to classic ladies and elegance." Mr. Brennan also selected a dynamic ink drawing, Twist by Darlene Kuhne of Arvada, CO; a beautifully balanced charcoal and pastel drawing, Looking Away by Mateus Costa of Cheltenham, PA; an expressive oil, Joseph by Jean Marcellino of New York, NY; and a skillful and delightful sculpture in walnut, Dimples by Larry Scaturro of Brooklyn. NY.
All thirty-one artworks in this calendar appear in the Barebrush calendars for the first time. Two artists are making their Barebrush calendar debut, Troy Cooper of Norfolk, VA, previously mentioned as launching December, and Seonyoung Kim from Woodside, NY with Purple, an exquisitely realized oil.
