The Forms of Enjoyment -- Guest curator, James Patrick Reid, is a New York City-based artist and teacher. When asked what he looks for in art, Mr. Reid answered:

There is a quality which characterizes the great art of all epochs and styles, from the Chauvet caves to Mondrian. It is vital form, form that lives thanks to the integrity and completeness of its relationships of line, shape, and tone, and by virtue of the resonance of the volumes and the space. Great abstract art aims directly at this quality, and the masterpieces of representational art from antiquity to the present time impressively embody it. This is the standard by which I judge art.
Mr. Reid's powerful understanding of composition as evident from his short videos, reachable from his website, explaining the compositions in the works of "old and modern masters."

Mr. Reid selected five Curators' Choice nominees for June, (starred dates in the list): 1* You Want Me (oil) by Tracey Padron of ELGIN, IL; 9* Alina (charcoal/carbon) by Mateus Costa of Cheltenham, PA; 14* Marissa (pastel) by Sara Swan of Los Angeles, CA; 17* Composed (pastel) by Dennis Young of New Castle, DE; 24* Like A Rock (watercolor) by Ilene Skeen of New York, NY.
