PhotoArt Beauty—Della Clason Sperling is an art historian with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, an art appraiser certified by the Appraisers Association of America, and the founder of Sperling Arts New York, with specialties in art advisory, certified appraisals, and collections management. She selected a pinhole camera digital print, Sarah_M_8-12-11--07AC, by Dan McCormack (NY) to begin March PhotoArt N*des-of-the-Month because of “the twos.” The symmetry of the woman’s two eyes, breasts, hands in front of the tractor’s two headlights and two pairs of wheels makes the tractor like a “human being,” she mused.
Six photographs are retiring, each of them having been in 3 calendars: Speak To Me by Janet E Gorman (NY); Tintern’s Man No. 8 by William Thierfelder (NY); Pomegranate by Matthew Smith (NY); The Opening by Joseph Mays (KY); and two by Guenter Knop, (NY): Symmetry, and To be or not to be that is here the question.
Ms. Sperling fondly remembered Tony Lee (Panama) from her calendar selection of La Rana / The Frog (August 2007). She marveled at the inventiveness of Peter King (NM) with Ethereal Being in the Southwest. She worried that the thin horizontal format of Lay down on the dawn by Gabriel Sanchez (Mexico) would not show properly, but decided to go with it anyway. She thought Blue by BlindWolf Photography, T. F. McDonald (KY) unusual.
