Summer: Hot Rhythms — Guest curator for the Barebrush PhotoArt Nudes calendar, Charles Yoder, artist, teacher and Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club, the oldest art club in New York City, began his art career as an abstract expressionist. His strong design and composition background has served him well in his transition to representation. That backgound is evident in the rhythm of each single piece and how they read together over the days of the calendar. Also evident is his sense of humor.
Mr. Yoger literally laughed out loud with delight when he saw Dolphins by Alan Teger, and opted to begin the month of June with the “bodyscape” photo. This is the third month in a row that a Teger photo has launched the month. Teger writes: “[This] is not a digital manipulation. The figures are placed on the actual model’s body to create surreal and humorous landscapes.” In fact, two of Teger’s images, Golfing in the Rough and Mountain Climbers are retiring in June having now been in three calendars.
Five other photos are also retiring this month. Among them are: Communion by Anthony Gordon and APSARA by Corrie Ancone.
For Barebrush Featured Artists, retired art appears on the Barebrush Honors Page. Featured Artists with artwork retiring this month are: Joseph Mays with Open Range, Angelique Moselle Price with Naked Sky Captain, and Dan McCormack with Val_W_10-03-10--7A. Barebrush Featured Artists are invited to become “Featured” when their art has appeared in six or more calendars. Their display of interest and dedication to their craft and their history of success at Barebrush is a sign to the art-loving public of contemporary art and artists worthy of recognition.
