Seeking the Unexpected — Guest curator for January 2013, Mikaela Sardo Lamarche, is no stranger to Barebrush. Ms. Lamarche was an enthusiastic interviewee for the original anthropological research project conducted by Barebrush founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen in 2005. Ms. Lamarche selected the art for April 2007 N*des-of-the-Month, again in November 2008, and Summer (July and August) 2010. She also selected the Curator’s Choice nominees for November 2011 during the website expansion to three calendars.
Ms. Lamarche selected A Bath in the Moonlight by German-born, New York artist, Guenter Knop for the honor of launching 2013.
Seven photographic nudes are retiring with this calendar, January 2013 being their third appearance. The Barebrush policy of retiring artworks after their selection in three calendars was instituted several years ago to encourage all the artists to keep their submissions fresh and the quality high. The retiring works are: two by Janet E. Gorman of Farmingdale, NY — Seduction and Waiting. There are two by Joseph Mays of Kentucky — Berlin Salon #6 and Circuitboard Jungle #56. Another two are by BlindWolf Photography, T. F. McDonald from Lexington, KY — Lydia in Gold and Orbs Amid Vertical Lines. Also retiring is How Do I Go On? by Dan Simoneau, ISAP from Kenosha, WI. Ms. Lamarche remarked several times that the quality of Barebrush artworks is really improved from her prior experiences. Bravo for the artists and for the art-loving public.
