New York, NY — Apr 27, 2012. All visual artists are invited by BAREBRUSH founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen to submit art of all genres for three Barebrush calendar contests: June 2012 N*des-of-the-Month calendar contest, the June 2012 PhotoArt N*des calendar contest, and the April 2012 Best-of-the-Rest calendar contest. Guest curator for the June 2012 calendars will be Charles Yoder, artist, teacher and Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village, NYC.

When asked to provide a personal statement for the art selection, Mr. Yoder said:

What I appreciate in any art work is an interesting balanced rhythm of light and dark, a presentation that holds my attention and pleases my eyes and a personal experience unique from the norm.

About the Salmagundi Club and Charles Yoder

Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in Greenwich Village, New York City, the Club offers programs including art classes, exhibitions, painting demonstrations, and art auctions throughout the year for members and the general public.

Charles Yoder was born into the bombed out Germany of the late 40’s to two American sergeants. He led the peripatetic lifestyle one would expect of such a child until arriving in the late 60’s into the bombed out Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Pratt Institute. In the forty plus years of New York City residence, he got a BFA from Pratt, supported his art habit as a director of the Castelli Graphics Gallery in the 70’s and as curator for Robert Rauschenberg and his “Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Interchange” world tour in the late 80’s. He also married a tall good looking interior designer about that time.

These days he paints full time, teaches printmaking part time at the School of Visual Arts, is Vice President of the Artists’ Fellowship Inc. and is Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club.

Charles Yoder will select the three June calendars for Barebrush: Nudes-of-the-Month, PhotoArt Nudes and the Best-of-the-Rest. He will also select the five nominees for the Curators’ Choice awards.

About the Jury of Awards and the Curators' Choice

After the guest curator selects the the “Curators Choice” nominees, previous Barebrush curators review the nominees and vote in a special poll. The public is also invited to vote. Winners are determined by a statistical combination of curators’ poll and the public voting. There is also a second poll, “My Favorite N*de” contest, which includes all art of the calendar art. Artists receive complimentary listings for getting into the Barebrush calendars, for being nominated for Curators’ Choice, for winning Curators’ Choice and for winning My Favorite N*de. The top winner of the Curator's Choice Awards is designated “N*des-of-the-Month” and appears on the front page of the Barebrush website for the next calendar month. Grand prize for winning the Curators’ is 65 listing points. Second and third place winners receive 30 and 16 points, respectively.
