September Balance—Guest curator, Vaughn Lewis, gallerist and preparator of MagnanMetz Gallery (NYC), looked for emotion in the N*des-of-the-Month calendar and for self in the PhotoArt N*des, but for the Best-of-the-Rest, it seems he chose on the basis of balance and fresh appeal. He selected an unusual birds-eye angle watercolor, Water Market Thailand by Jacqui Morgan (NYC) to launch the month.

Lewis selected a total of four watercolors by Morgan including Fifth Ave & 57th Street,NYC, a work making its calendar debut. This delightful winter shopping scene reminds us that it’s September, and the holiday season will be upon us before we know it. Fully 18 new works appear in September Best-of-the-Rest calendar for the first time. New York artist, Jon Rettich has two lively drawings of musicians, Mark, Gady, Joe & Ellen and Shades of Green Group. Chanit Rostin, also of New York, offers a dramatic oil, Big Sur. Lauren Rinaldi of Philadelphia has two passionately painted oils, Birth of Vincent and With Child. Terry Tayler of Wauconda, IL has three new works in this calendar: an enhanced, abstract photograph, Untitled Moss, an oil, Skewed Portrait and a drawing, Breather. New York artist, Jean Marcellino has an attractive drawing, Susan and Her Hat, center stage in the September calendar. Also holding a Wednesday is the compelling pastel, Shoulder by New Jersey artist, Tai Lin. The fourth Wednesday has new art as well, Love - Pass It On, by Justin Austin of Graham, North Carolina. Roger Cummiskey of Malaga, Spain offers a delightfully simple watercolor, Desayuno - Breakfast, and William Thierfelder from Bayshore, NY offers Study 40 a charcoal and pencil rendering based on a color reduced digital image.

Most notably, Edward Cascone of Bayshore, NY is making his calendar debut this month with four acrylics showing a broad range: two landscapes, Dock at Dusk and Sunset on the Bay, The Rendezvous, an imaginative piece, and The Flute Player, a self-portrait.

Three artworks are retiring this month having been selected now for three calendars: a photograph, City Girls by Joseph Mays of Lexington, KY; a watercolor, Salad & Lace by New York artist, Jacqui Morgan; and, an oil, Young Man in White Tee Shirt by David Schulz of Middletown, CT.
