Photo Ideals—Art writer and editor, David Masello, enjoyed the Barebrush Curators’ computerized art selection system, suggesting some improvements. Always decisive and professional, Mr. Masello selected much of the art and photography from the thumbnail viewer, later going to the individual artist’s pages to confirm his choices. About this process he stated, “If it reads well small, it already really tells you something.” He chose Romantic by Guenter Knop from NY for the opening of the month, saying that he liked the symbolism of the open door.

Mr. Masello commented that photography is “less nuanced” than other art, and thus he thought it more of a challenge. He enjoyed the selection process overall, with a continual stream of oohs, aahs and “I like this!” He said that titles are very important to him and that artists should be careful in choosing titles as the title can make a difference.

Six photographs in this calendar are retiring, having been selected by three curators. The art is therefore considered validated and no longer eligible for competitions. We congratulate the artists and their work here: Romantic by Guenter Knop from NY; Adonis and Aphrodite by BlindWolf Photography, T. F. McDonald from Lexington, KY; Harvest Moone by Bare Ass Art Studio-Gabe Edwards from Lutz, FL; Untitled by Matthew Smith from New York, NY; Zoe_W_7-14-11--09AB by Dan McCormack from Accord, NY; and RedLuna by Corrie Ancone from Sydney, Australia.
