Title: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Desc: This full sheet watercolor's title has double meaning. Most obviously, I challenged myself to paint a transparent watercolor in a mosaic style. As the medium is transparent, I could not make marks on the paper to guide color placement. Rather, I had to count down and across and then fill in the square in order to complete the piece. I painted the "mortar" first and went from there. There are approximately 30 different colors in the painting and over 2,000 1/4" squares. The second meaning of the title refers to the model... My model had just broken up with his longtime partner and was moving cross-country.

Media: watercolor

Size: 30" x 22"

Genre: people (clothed)
