Vincent Van Gogh, one of my role models said,
“I feel there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”I may be a bit of a recluse, and art is an escape for me, my own form of art therapy, but also a way I can share with people. I am Chinese/American, and appreciate having been brought up with many cultures in New York City, but my second language is Dutch. Being accepted to the High School of Music and Art was a joy to me, while I was living in the Bronx. But, since we moved to the suburbs of Long Island I didn't go there, although my love of art was set for life.
I Studied EE at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts before joining the Air Force, which took me to the Netherlands, where I worked with avionics at a Dutch base. I took my discharge there and stayed altogether about 5 years. I studied at the Kunst Academie of Arnhem and at Artibus in Utrecht. Later, at John Herron School of Art, in Indianapolis, Indiana where I got a BAE. I had wanted to study Art therapy, but that wasn't taught in Indiana, so Art Education was a way I wanted to change most people's idea that they had no talent and couldn't do art, to teach how many forms of art there are, and how enjoyable it is. As Van Gogh had it in him to put his heart and soul into his work, even if he lost his mind in the process. I've kept some form of art in my life, while working my way through schools with electronics jobs, and eventually working for Digital / Compaq / HP for over 25 years.
Since I took an early retirement in 2005, I've been doing art in one form or another, but focusing on pottery, which eventually led to sculpting clay, pencil drawing, oil painting, and photography. It was great to find Barebrush, where I can comfortably share my art, as it means so much to me, or I'd just spend my days working on things, that people may never see. I have had some showings, but do not pursue that much, just as I have donated much of my work to different organizations rather than try to make any sales. I can say that my work is all around the world though, as I have lived in many places and left some art behind, when I can. I'm now living near Santa Fe, New Mexico and happy to be where art is appreciated, and there is so much history and beautiful nature everywhere. I also relate to Georgia O'Keeffe rather being here than in New York City, and through my art, try to show how there is so much beauty in nature. The naked human form is a timeless and honest subject of natural beauty, to be appreciated through art and appreciated as such.
