This is not about sex. Male, female—people are people. A rare few are as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. Ordinary people who pose for artists are far more beautiful on the inside. I make that beauty shine through.
No matter what school or "ism" curators subscribe to, I have found that art is chosen when it is skillfully accomplished, conceptually interesting and emotionally evocative according to the curator's own standards. My goal for Barebrush is to understand, define and raise those standards for art lovers and collectors everywhere.
Yes, I'm the designer of the Barebrush website, but just like many other of the artists who show their work here, the point is a public forum to show and sell my art. The images above are part of barebrush.com history. Click on the date to see the particular calendar, click on the image to see the art details.
Dynamic Menus (Design Brag Alert):
One of the unique features of Barebrush is our dynamic menus. Menus respond to your current interest. Thus the menu tab "Ilene Skeen" (upper right) will drop down to reveal the pages connected to me. That tab will change when you click on another artist's name or work. How cool is that!
Ilene Skeen has won awards from the Islip Arts Council, the Smithtown Arts Council, Allied Artists of America and the Salmagundi Club.
Reviewing a show of her watercolor figures in 1997, Newsday advised, "...don't overlook [these] delicate watercolor nudes...'
Ms. Skeen has a BA in Art, an MBA in operations research, and an MA in anthropology. Her corporate career included accounting, management and business systems design. Ms. Skeen's unique background enabled her to found barebrush.com in 2006, dedicated to the art of the nude.
