New York, NY —Jan 3, 2016. All visual artists are invited by BAREBRUSH founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen to submit art of all genres for three Barebrush calendar exhibitions: February 2016 N*des-of-the-Month calendar exhibition, the February 2016 PhotoArt N*des calendar exhibition, and the February 2016 Best-of-the-Rest calendar exhibition.

Curator and Juror of Awards: Guest Curator, Joyce Pommer, Independent Curator

Guest curator, Joyce Pommer is an artist, independent curator and the former owner of Franklin 54 Gallery (now closed). She has exhibited widely across the country, curated for NAWA (National Association of Women Artists), the Affordable Art Fair and other venues. Her works are in numerous private collections. Ms. Pommer last curated for Barebrush in 2012, and we are delighted to have her again.

When asked for a personal statement about the art selection for Barebrush, Ms. Pommer wrote:

I will be looking for visual images that are strong, pull me in, make me stay and make me interested in how the medium is used. I want to feel an emotional reaction to the pieces

Selection and Awards

For February 2016, the guest curator will select a total of 87 artworks. Artists receive complimentary listing points for selection into the Barebrush calendars. The guest curator selects the Curators’ Choice nominees based on the number of entries in the dynamic count at the close of the contest. All the Barebrush curators have an opportunity to view and judge the Curators' Choice nomines. Please see the call page for further information on the dynamic count and prizes.

The top winner(s) of the Curators’ Choice Award appear(s) on the front page of the Barebrush website for the next calendar month.

About and the N*des-of-the-Month Calendar Competitions is an worldwide, online exhibition. Membership is free. Artists upload art to Barebrush for a nominal fee. Each artist gets a personal gallery page to show their work which is visible in their gallery on the next business day. Artwork is selected to appear in the Barebrush calendars. Artists win free listing points for being selected into the calendars, and also win free listing points for being nominated for the Curators’ Choice awards. Guest Curators vote on the nominees. The public also votes. Points can be used to list artwork, pay for Featured Artist subscription and entry into “brick and mortar” invitational shows

Barebrush is working on its fourth invitational show, date TBD (2016) in the Chelsea art district of Manhattan. The Barebrush invitational shows are open only to Barebrush Artists, showing only Barebrush calendar art (any genre) and only calendar art not shown in any prior Barebrush brick & mortar show.

Deadline, Procedures and Benefits

The deadline for contest entries is January 21, 2016. All artists are encouraged to join Barebrush and submit their art DIRECTLY ON THE BAREBRUSH WEBSITE.  DO NOT SUBMIT ART TO DIRECTLY TO ANY CURATOR OR TO ILENE SKEEN. ONLY ART SUBMITTED ON BAREBRUSH.COM WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CALENDAR exhibitions. Membership is required to submit art. Membership is free. There is a nominal fee to upload art. Instructions at the web site. As part of the Barebrush submission process, new art entered on or before January 21, 2016 and live in the artist’s gallery page on January 22, 2016 will be in the February competition and automatically considered for the March competition as well.

All of your art on your active gallery page at the deadline date is automatically entered
Upload new art, if so desired.

All art is “human reviewed” to eliminate pornography and spammers. Your art will be viewable on your gallery page and in the Art Log within one day. You will get an email when your art goes live.

The February 2016 calendars will be in previews (for members only) at the end of January, and live for the public on February 1st. The press releases announcing the calendars will be published on or about February 1st. The February calendar artists will be notified prior to February 1st.

Here are some of the promotional opportunities for artists:

  1. Personal Shops for Barebrush Artists: Help art lovers find and buy your art.

  2. Enhanced Price Display: All artists can now show exact prices for their artworks. Barebrush does not charge commission unless we are personally involved in the sale.

  3. Gallery Store--Search, Browse, Buy: Search by genre, media and text. Help art lovers invest in their passion. Sell your art.

  4. Art Contact Form: Contact form includes thumbnail of the artwork, description and price. The form goes to Barebrush with a copy to the potential buyer and a bcc to the artist.

  5. Monthly press release: For each calendar, listing all of the artists in the calendar by name and date.

  6. Calendar slide shows Barebrush automatically displays the art and artists in date sequence.

  7. Personalized Press Release: A personalized, professional press release is emailed to each artist. This press release includes images of the artist's calendar entry and lists each artist by name.

  8. “It’s Your Day” Email Barebrush sends each artist an email on “their day,” that is, when their art is live on the front page of

  9. Barebrush Pressroom: The art of the day appears in the Barebrush pressroom.
  10. News & Events: The art of the day is published in the Barebrush News & Events Blog.

  11. Social Media: The art of the day announcement appears in Facebook and Twitter.

  12. Award Winners Press Release: Barebrush publishes a press release announcing the winners of the Curators' Choice awards.
